Drug Abuse has been a problem and it takes a wide definition because it could range from alcohol to amphetamines, barbiturates and many other forms that could ruin the lives of our generation. It usually starts with peer pressure followed by frequent use. Psychiatrists and public health officials have been studying the subject of drug abuse and have tried to look at it from a broader perspective than simply the individual. They are trying to start to shy away from the word “abuse” and simply using the term “problem” instead because there are addictions and abuse of other drugs such as pain medications where the drug jumped from being beneficial to problematic.
Drug abuse may lead to health and mental problems if not treated which could ruin the life of a perfectly stable person. There are many facilities that offer treatment yet usually, the problem lies in getting the person to be treated to admit the problem to themselves and obtain help. Be it illegal drugs or addiction to pain medications, the individual must be treated and should seek assistance as soon as they are able. To some, intervention may be needed in order for them to realize that they are at risk.
If you know of anyone, help them get back on their feet and get on with their lives. There is always hope for recovery.
