50% of Americans suffer some form of hemorrhoid disease by age 50. That’s approximately 10.4 million people. And if half the population in the country suffers from this disease, that would mean you are probably here because you suffer from it and are looking for ways to remedy the problem that you have been ignoring for years.

There are several reasons to why people get hemorrhoids. It could be caused by race, poor eating habits, genetics, gender, or age. Most women suffer from hemorrhoids during pregnancy. Even though almost 25% of the affected are women, they are still less likely to seek treatment than men. If you can believe it, weightlifters are more prone to suffering from hemorrhoids simply because lifting weights causes strain in the veins in your rectum.

There are internal and external hemorrhoids. You can have either one or have both types. Your doctor can determine whether you have Stage 2, 3, 4 or in extreme cases 5. Available treatments are banding, hemorrhoidectomy, and most recently hemorrhoidophexy or hemorrhoid stapling.

Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy is the most recommendable treatment for those who suffer from hemorrhoids witha stage 3 or higher. It is less painful that traditional hemorrhoidectomy. It’s an outpatient procedure and testimonies claim that you could be back to your normal self within a couple of weeks.

Here’s a link to a video (WARNING: VERY GRAPHIC) of the procedure. You must log in with your account to verify your age prior to viewing the video.

If you are thinking about getting it done, make sure that you go to a colorectal specialist. Do not have just any physician perform the surgery.

Recommended while healing: Sitting in the tub with warm water for 10-15 minutes, three times a day. This helps soothe the pain.

I have a friend who suffers from rosacea. It’s an irritation in the skin which results in red blots in the skin or irritation. He has it on his face and when it flares up, you can see red marks on his cheeks. One thing that can help alleviate the irritation (at least for him) is by getting regular facials as his treatment. Somehow, the facials help alleviate the redness in his face.

There are also signs that regular facials help slow the signs of aging. There are many types of facials that you can get. I accompany my friend each time he goes and I get a treatment myself. My situation is a little different from him. I have dark circles under my eyes due to lack of iron. I take iron pills but it doesn’t help much. The salon that we go to offers a process where they take a pencil-shaped steel rod that they place around my eyes in a circular motion. They do this for a few minutes and somehow, it lightens the dark circles under my eyes. I had it done twice and the circles around my eyes are almost gone.

Facial treatments are an essential part of grooming as well. There are rejuvenating facials, de-tox facials, collagen facials and many others that you can avail of. Some facials don’t cost that much and you can probably get a facial for less than a hundred bucks. It really all depends on what services you want to avail of. Don’t worry if you have sensitive skin because they have a facial designed for people with sensitive skin as well.

If you’re serious about getting back your facial glow, try getting a facial. Not only that it is a relaxing process and a stress-reliever, it will help reduce wrinkles and all the bad elements that damage your skin. Give it a try.

I was talking to a friend of mine over the weekend. He’s been trying to convince me to quit smoking. Believe me, I want to quit smoking but I guess not bad enough yet to actually do it.

I have been smoking for more than 20 years and it’s a habit that is very hard for me to break. I got started during military training in high school. It was a way to look cool and look awesome. A lot of good that did me!

Now, I really want to quit smoking but I don’t want to take any pills because I’ve heard so many horror stories about it. I want to try the patch but I still have reservations about it. I’ve heard people who suffered a heart attack while on the patch. I’m not saying or confirming that it had something to do with it but you know how it goes?

There may be hope for me though. Have you heard of hypnosis? A friend of mine wants to do it to help him with his anxiety attacks. I have (or at least not aware if I have) not experienced an anxiety attack but if the treatment works for him, it may work for me as well. He lives in Chicago and it’s easy to find a place for treatment if you have internet access. All you have to do is Google “hypnosis for anxiety chicago“ and you can find clinics who offer hypnosis treatments.

In the meantime, I may check out the free service that my state offers to help me quit smoking. If this doesn’t work, I may have to try hypnosis.

Medicine’s focus has long been on treating specific diseases. We have radiation treatments to combat cancer tumors, cholesterol-lowering drugs to stave off heart attacks, and insulin to control diabetes.

But imagine if there were a drug that would slow down the aging process itself, a drug that didn’t just treat a single disease but instead targeted multiple diseases of old age at once? It may sound far-fetched, but that’s precisely what longevity scientists are working hard to produce.

“It’s not just that we’re trying to make people live longer; we’re trying to make people live healthier. This is an exciting time for research,” says Felipe Sierra, director of the Division of Aging Biology at the National Institute on Aging.

Indeed, top-notch research labs are rolling out studies at a rapid rate, and a growing chorus of experts believe the advances being made will ultimately lead to a crop of drugs capable of extending healthy lifespans. Signs of progress are abundant in medical journals.

In a discovery that Science magazine hailed as one of the top 10 breakthroughs of 2011, researchers from the Mayo Clinic published results showing they could markedly delay the onset of age-related diseases in mice by killing off the rodents’ senescent cells. Senescent cells have stopped dividing and accumulate as organisms age. Though seemingly dormant, they’re not: Just as old cars in junkyards can leak oil for years, they emit harmful substances that appear to fuel many of the diseases that strike older people.

The researchers were working on mice bred to age prematurely, and they found that exposing the mice to a synthetic drug that attacked senescent cells cut down on muscle loss, cataracts, skin thinning, and other signs of aging. Their next step is to replicate their findings in additional populations of mice and other animals. “We’re not there yet, but we’re getting closer to doing clinical trials on people,” says James Kirkland, director of the Mayo Clinic’s Robert and Arlene Kogod Center on Aging and one of the scientists involved in the study. “There’s so much promise.”

And it’s not just senescence research that is stoking excitement. Another team of scientists, this one led by Ronald DePinho at Harvard University, has managed to control the aging process by targeting specialized structures at the tips of chromosomes called telomeres. When the researchers genetically engineered mice to have short telomeres, mice aged prematurely. When they used gene therapy to lengthen telomeres the reverse happened. Decrepit, infertile mice with shriveled testes and diminished cognitive functioning began to bounce back. DePinho has estimated that overall, the mice went from being what was essentially ages 80 to 90 in human years to the equivalent of middle age in the course of the experiment.

Other scientists have found that feeding aging mice rapamycin—an immunosuppressant that’s used to prevent organ rejection after transplants—can extend the lifespan of mice significantly. The drug seems to improve the functioning of mitochondria, structures that generate power for cells, and whose dysfunction previous research has shown is involved in numerous diseases of aging.

But what does this all mean for those of us without whiskers and a tail who want to up our chances of living past 100? “The thing to remember is that most of the breakthroughs in longevity research that you hear about on the news have their origins in basic research in animals,” says Sierra. No matter how exciting they are from a scientific perspective, it could be decades before they start yielding anti-aging medications for the masses, he cautions.

Take calorie restriction, for example, another hot topic in longevity science. Numerous studies dating back to the 1930s have shown that cutting calories to near starvation levels can be a boon for animal longevity, and in the early 1990s scientists made the first in a series of announcements suggesting they had sorted out why.

The thinking was this: Calorie-restricted animals survived longer, in many cases 30 percent longer, because the process activated a family of genes that produce proteins called sirtuins, substances that directly altered the metabolic activity of cells in ways thought to stave off diseases of aging.

When a team of scientists from Harvard reported in 2003 that a compound in the skin of red grapes called resveratrol seemed to activate sirtuins—and caused obese and diabetic mice fed a high-fat diet to live longer—sales of red wine and resveratrol dietary supplements shot through the roof.

In recent years, however, snags in the science have suggested the rush for resveratrol supplements may have been premature. A fierce and public debate has since emerged with camps of researchers publishing contradictory studies.

Scientists have had difficulty reproducing some of the original resveratrol findings. And studies in yeast, flies, and worms have questioned whether resveratrol really activates sirtuins and whether sirtuins are as instrumental to aging as first thought.

Meanwhile, in the human research realm, the drug maker GlaxoSmithKline terminated a clinical trial of a concentrated form of resveratrol that doctors had been testing on cancer patients because of unexpected side effects on people’s kidneys. In the spring of 2012, it even came to light that a University of Connecticut researcher had allegedly falsified numerous studies suggesting that resveratrol has positive health effects.

But none of this means that nothing will ever come of sirtuins. Despite the controversy, a steady stream of studies continue to materialize and show that sirtuins play an important role in aging. A new study in the May issue of Cell Metabolism, for example, argues that there’s a clear connection between resveratrol and sirtuins and suggests that sirtuins are key to slowing down the aging process.

Meanwhile, Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, the company that had been testing resveratrol for GlaxoSmithKline, has a number of newer, more potent and targeted sirtuin compounds in its pipeline that resemble resveratrol but are structurally distinct.

There’s nothing particularly unusual about having a compound that works in the lab prove problematic in humans: In drug development, there are often false starts and dead ends. “People forget that we’re not mice,” Sierra says. “And what works in mice doesn’t necessarily translate to humans as cleanly as we’d like.”

Most researchers studying longevity believe that drugs to combat multiple age-related diseases will emerge eventually, just not for decades. In the meantime, Sierra does not advocate popping resveratrol or any of the other anti-aging pills already on the market. “We’re still in an early stage of research,” he says. “I don’t have a tail. I don’t have whiskers, and I won’t take anything until we have good studies in humans showing a drug is safe and effective.”

Until then, his anti-aging medication of choice is exercise.

Pomegranates play a role in health for their anti aging properties in many cultures around the world. You can find pomegranate juice and other products touting the health benefits of pomegranates in almost any grocery in the United States. Are pomegranates worth the extra price?

What is a Pomegranate Anyway?

Pomegranates come from small fruit tress that originally came from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. These trees have been cultivated all around the world for thousands of years. You can even find pomegranate trees in California.
Health Claims of Pomegranates
The pomegranate fruit contains high levels of antioxidants, vitamin C, as well as other vitamins and minerals. All these nutritional components lead to claims of boosting the immune system, helping the heart and even fighting cancer.
Are the Health Claims About Pomegranates True?

Well, sort of. Notice how health claims on exotic anti aging products don’t ever give a percentage of benefit? The products simply say “cancer fighting” not “reduces prostate cancer risk by 20%.” The reason for this is that these claims are usually made by marketers in principle, meaning that because we know that vitamin C is generally good for the immune system and pomegranates contain a lot of vitamin C, they also likely boost the immune system. It’s not to say that pomegranates don’t help out — it’s just that other fruits, supplements and foods do, too.
Should I Eat More Pomegranates?
Probably. It is a good idea to eat a wide range of fruits and vegetables. Adding in some occasional pomegranate juice will give your body some nutrients it wouldn’t be getting from other sources. But you don’t have to go pomegranate crazy. Just work some into your weekly diet.
Ways to Get Your Pomegranate
The easiest (and most expensive) way to work pomegranate into your diet is to buy pomegranate juice. These juices contain high concentrations of pomegranate and have a strong, almost bitter taste. I have to cut my pomegranate juice with water or club soda.

A more fun way to get pomegranates in your diet is a sweet syrup made from pomegranates called grenadine. This syrup can be used to add exotic flavors to cooking or cocktails. If you are very good in the kitchen, you can even buy whole pomegranates and work with the fruit yourself. There are some tricks to cutting and working with pomegranate fruit.

Nutrients and phytochemicals
Pomegranate sepals and drying stamens after fertilization and petal fall

Pomegranate aril juice provides about 16% of an adult’s daily vitamin C requirement per 100 ml serving, and is a good source of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), potassium and polyphenols, such as ellagitannins and flavonoids.[34][35]

Pomegranates are listed as high-fiber in some charts of nutritional value. That fiber, however, is entirely contained in the edible seeds which also supply unsaturated oils. People who choose to discard the seeds forfeit nutritional benefits conveyed by the seed fiber, oils and micronutrients.

The most abundant polyphenols in pomegranate juice are the hydrolyzable tannins called ellagitannins formed when ellagic acid binds with a carbohydrate. Pomegranate ellagitannins, also called punicalagins, are tannins with free-radical scavenging properties in laboratory experiments[36] and with potential human effects.[37] Punicalagins are absorbed into the human body and may have dietary value as antioxidants, but conclusive proof of efficacy in humans has not yet been shown.[38][39] During intestinal metabolism by bacteria, ellagitannins and punicalagins are converted to urolithins which have unknown biological activity in vivo.[40][41] The different punicalagins present in P. granatum are granatin A and B, punicacortein A, B, C and D, 5-O-galloylpunicacortein D, punicafolin, punigluconin, punicalagin, 1-alpha-O-galloylpunicalagin, punicalin and 2-O-galloyl-punicalin.[citation needed]

Other phytochemicals include phenolic catechins, gallocatechins, and anthocyanins, such as prodelphinidins, delphinidin, cyanidin, and pelargonidin.[42] The ORAC (antioxidant capacity) of pomegranate juice was measured at 2,860 units per 100 grams.[43]

Many food and dietary supplement makers use pomegranate phenolic extracts as ingredients in their products instead of the juice. One of these extracts is ellagic acid, which may become bioavailable only after parent molecule punicalagins are metabolized. However, ingested ellagic acid from pomegranate juice does not accumulate in the blood in significant quantities and is rapidly excreted.[44] Accordingly, ellagic acid from pomegranate juice does not appear to be biologically important in vivo.
[edit] Potential health benefits

In preliminary laboratory research and clinical trials, juice of the pomegranate may be effective in reducing heart disease risk factors, including LDL oxidation, macrophage oxidative status, and foam cell formation.[45][46][47] In an article published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2000, researchers detailed an experiment in which healthy adult men and unhealthy mice consumed pomegranate juice daily. After two weeks, the healthy men experienced increased antioxidant levels, which resulted in a ninety percent drop in LDL cholestoral oxidation. In the mice, “oxidation of LDL by peritoneal macrophages was reduced by up to 90% after pomegranate juice consumption…”.[48]

In a limited study of hypertensive patients, consumption of pomegranate juice for two weeks was shown to reduce systolic blood pressure by inhibiting serum angiotensin-converting enzyme.[49] Juice consumption may also inhibit viral infections[50] while pomegranate extracts have antibacterial effects against dental plaque.[51]

Despite limited research data, manufacturers and marketers of pomegranate juice have liberally used evolving research results for product promotion, especially for putative antioxidant health benefits. In February 2010, the FDA issued a Warning Letter to one such manufacturer, POM Wonderful, for using published literature to make illegal claims of unproven antioxidant and anti-disease benefits.

Q: I’m worried I may have been exposed to HIV. Are there any tests that can tell me immediately if I’ve been infected? How accurate are they? What’s the most accurate test currently available?

A: Yes, it is possible to get a rapid test for HIV—with a result in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing can be done with a blood test or using saliva collected by swabbing the inside of the mouth. The blood test is slightly more accurate.

However, before rushing out to get tested, you need to be aware of some limitations of the tests. The screening tests use a technique called an enzyme immunoassay (EIA). EIA tests detect the presence of specific antibodies you body makes when exposed to HIV.

It may take as long as six weeks before there are enough antibodies in your blood or saliva to give a positive EIA test. So if you were recently infected you may test negative, but still have the virus. Also you need to be aware that a rapid test may be positive even when a person does not have HIV infection. This is called a false positive. It occurs in about 3 out of 1,000 tests.

False positives also can occur with more traditional blood tests done in a laboratory. The difference is that the “traditional” test result is not reported until a second, more accurate confirmatory test is done.

If any initial test using antibodies, either traditional or rapid, is positive, then a Western blot test is done to confirm the diagnosis. Results of this test may not be available for several days. The Western blot test is the most specific antibody test for HIV. There are several causes of false positive EIAs; but a false positive Western blot is extremely rare.

Neither the EIA nor the Western blot is accurate immediately after a person is infected with the HIV virus. It can take six weeks or more for these tests to become positive. The period between infection with HIV and the development of positive test for antibodies is called “the window period.” This term refers to the window of time between getting the HIV infection and the ability to detect the body’s response to infection (the development of antibodies).

The other test used to determine HIV infection is called a viral load test. The test detects the presence of actual virus in the blood rather than testing for an antibody. It is not recommended for general screening. It can be ordered if a person has symptoms suggestive of a newly acquired HIV infection (such as fever, sore throat, headache, body aches accompanied by possible exposure to the virus).

Have we finally found the fountain of youth? A Harvard study finds that an enzyme, when administered to mice – reversed the aging process and found that the enlarged brain had shrunk, organs had atrophied and the sense of smell had vibrantly returned.

The initial experiment was to find if the process of aging can be stopped or slowed down in order to allow people live healthier and more productive lives. What they found was shocking.

“We were expecting to slow or perhaps stabilize the aging process. Instead, we saw a dramatic reversal in the symptoms of aging.”

, according to Dr. Ronald DePinho, director of the Belfer Institute at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute who authored the paper in the Journal of Nature.

The mice used for the experiment are mice who are in the brink of dying. When the enzymes were introduced, they saw a significant reversal of aging.

It had to do with the mice’s telomeres (the tip of our chromosomes). As we age, the telomeres part of our chromosose deteriorates and thus resulting in many of the symptoms of aging such as loss of memory, decrease in energy and the like.

The enzymes called telomerase was introduced to the aging mice. After its introduction, the mice’s telomeres was rebuilt as if they were new.

DePinho was quick to point out however that the telomeres is only one factor in aging and that we should not jump into conclusion that it is the only thing that we need to regenerate in order to reverse the aging process.

It is a very interesting research to say the least. We could be eons away from discovering the fountain of youth but it definitely is a great start.

These food and drink options will help your body fight off the damage caused by aging (see exotic anti-aging foods for some odder longevity foods). Just work them into your daily and weekly meal plans and you’ll be getting extra vitamins, antioxidants and other substances that will help your body fight age-related illnesses and be anti aging resources for you. Start today!

1. Avocados

Avocados lead my list of anti-aging foods because that are just so delicious. Of course, avocados are loaded with healthy fats to help improve your cholesterol, but the main reason to eat avocados is because they taste so good.

2. Walnuts

I know I need to eat more omega-3s and that fish are a great source, but I have to admit that possible mercury contamination of fish has got me a bit scared off. That’s where walnuts come in. Turns out that walnuts are a great (and mercury-free) source of omega-3 essential fatty acids. Eat a handful or two a day for all your omega-3 needs.

3. Green Vegetables

I know, it’s pretty boring to talk about the need to eat more vegetables — but here’s the thing, we all really need to do it. In fact, if the country could get 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day, we’d see a huge decrease in heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure and more. So find some way to eat one more veggie or fruit this week, then add another next week until you get to 9 servings. Focus on leafy or deeply colored vegetables for the most benefit.

4. Water

Water is good for you. This seems pretty basic. There is some disagreement in the medical world whether drinking TONS of water is really a good idea, but while they sort that out stay focused on water. Your goal should be to make water your primary drink. This way, you’ll be drinking a no calorie, no chemical drink all day long instead of the many, many high-calorie, high chemical alternatives.

5. Berries

Berries are packed full of antioxidants and other chemicals that your body can use to make repairs and prevent some of the damage caused by aging. Best of all, berries taste really, really good. Be sure to eat your berries without any sauces or sugars. Just enjoy them plain for their goodness.

6. Green Tea

Green tea has been a longevity supplement in Asia for thousands of years. It is a great thing to work into your daily life. Green tea contains high concentrations of just the chemicals your body needs. Green tea is also inexpensive, delicious and gives a mild (and gentle) energy boost from its caffeine.

7. Red Wine

Red wine is good for you — it contains a substance called “resveratrol” that help your body fight off age-related illnesses. At the end of your day have a glass or two to relax and unwind. You’ll get the benefits of a delicious drink along with the anti-aging properties of resveratrol.

8. Beans

Beans are a great source of healthy protein and antioxidants. Really, beans are a wonder food. Some researchers (like T. Colin Powell) believe that animal protein may cause many of the illnesses we face as we age. Switching to a (healthy) vegetarian diet certainly will help improve the health of your heart and arteries. Beans are a necessary part of any healthy vegetarian diet. If you don’t want to go all the way to vegetarianism, then just start by substituting a few meals a week with bean-based entrees.

9. Melons

When I think of fruit, I don’t always think of melons. That’s a shame because melons have some of the best nutritional profiles of all the fruits. They are pulpy (so they fill you up) and contain lots of vitamins for your body. Work melons into your daily/weekly diet and you’ll be reaping health benefits as you enjoy them.

10. Chocolate

I put chocolate last in this list only because it doesn’t need to be higher up to get your attention. Chocolate (dark chocolate, that is) is good for you. It has a balance of fats that don’t harm your body and tons of healthy chemicals that your body needs. The only draw-back is that chocolate also has calories. Have a little square every day, but don’t overdue it.

What is the leading killer in America? Heart disease; it’s the number one cause of death in the United States. The sad part is that you can prevent heart disease simply by watching your diet. With hectic work schedules and the popularity of fast food restaurants, it’s no surprise that the average American is overweight. So it’s time to say NO to those greasy fries and walk the path towards better health.

Eating Healthy

One can always lower their chance of getting heart disease by choosing their foods more wisely. For a healthier heart one should eat:

Less Sodium: Although we need some sodium in our diets, most of us consume too much of it. Eating less salt helps lower blood pressure, which helps reduce the risk of heart disease. So, avoid adding unnecessary salt to foods and steel clear of prepackaged salty snacks.

More Fiber: You may lower your chances of getting heart disease by eating fiber from grains, fruits and vegetables.

Fewer Calories: When we eat more calories than necessary, we gain weight – yes, even if the food is fat free. Being overweight can cause heart disease. Therefore, try to keep your weight down to normal levels, by keeping it proportional to your height.

Less Fat: Some fats are more likely to cause heart disease than others. Avoid fats found in animal meat, milk, cheese, butter, and foods with palm, vegetable and coconut oils. Instead, opt for unsaturated and heart-friendly omega3 fats, found in nuts, avocados, olive oil, and salmon

Tips for a Healthy Heart

Basically, maintain a diet that is low in saturated fat, cholesterol, and salt, and try to consume more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean chicken, and heart-friendly fish, nuts, and olive oil.

Eating this way does not mean you must spend more time preparing special foods, nor should you have to spend more money. The only thing you must do is change your shopping habits and buy healthier products. Here is a list of substitutes that will definitely improve your diet:

# Instead of fatty cuts of meat (i.e. prime rib), eat lean cuts of meat, or cut off the fatty parts of the meat.

# Instead of smoked, cured, salted, and canned meat, poultry and fish,
try unsalted fresh or frozen meat, poultry and fish.
# Instead of fried foods, eat steamed, boiled, broiled, or baked foods.

# Instead of cooking with lard, butter, palm, coconut oils,
and shortenings, use olive oil.
# Instead of one whole egg in recipes, use two egg whites and discard the yolk.

# Instead of whole or 2% milk and cream, try 1% or skim milk.

# Instead of salted potato chips and other oily snacks, choose low-fat, unsalted corn chips or unsalted pretzels or low fat popcorn.

# Instead of crackers with salted tops, eat unsalted or low-sodium whole-wheat crackers.

# Instead of sauces, butter and salt, try seasoning vegetables with herbs and spices.

# Instead of white bread, white rice and cereals made with white flour, try whole-wheat bread, whole-grain cereals, and long-grain rice.

Research studies show fish oil benefits are down right amazing.

And knowing this is the second most important thing you can do for your health. (We’ll get to #1 in importance soon.)

Studies are published almost daily as the scientific community discovers more and more of the many extraordinary omega 3 fish oil benefits.

If you haven’t already been swept up in the net yet, here are 7 proven omega 3 benefits you should know about.

1. Less Pain and Inflammation. Omega 3 fatty acids, particularly EPA, have a very positive effect on your inflammatory response. Through several mechanisms, they regulate your body’s inflammation cycle, which prevents and relieves painful conditions like arthritis, prostatitis, cystitis and anything else ending in “itis.”

2. Cardiovascular Health. Omega 3 fatty acids have also been proven to work wonders for your heart and the miles and miles of arteries and veins that make up your cardiovascular system. They help to lower cholesterol, tryglicerides, LDLs and blood pressure, while at the same time increasing good HDL cholesterol. This adds years to your life expectancy.

3. Protection from Stroke and Heart Attack. When plaque builds up on arterial walls and then breaks loose, it causes what’s known as a thrombosis, which is a fancy way of saying clot. If a clot gets stuck in the brain, it causes a stroke and when it plugs an artery, it causes a heart attack. Research shows omega 3 fatty acids break up clots before they can cause any damage.

4. Better Brain Function and Higher Intelligence. Pregnant and nursing mothers can have a great impact on the intelligence and happiness of their babies by supplementing with fish oil. For adults, omega 3 improves memory, recall, reasoning and focus. You’ll swear you’re getting younger and smarter.

5. Less Depression and Psychosis. Making you smarter is not all omega 3 does for your brain. Psychiatry department researchers at the University of Sheffield, along with many other research studies, found that omega 3 fish oil supplements “alleviate” the symptoms of depression, bipolar and psychosis (Journal of Affective Disorder Vol. 48(2-3);149-55).

6. Lower Incidence of Childhood Disorders. Just to show how fish oil fatty acids leave nobody out, studies show that children (and adults) with ADD and ADHD experience a greatly improved quality of life. And those with dyslexia, dyspraxia and compulsive disorders have gotten a new lease on life thanks to omega 3 oils.

7. Reduction of Breast, Colon and Prostate Cancer. And finally, omega 3 fish oil has been shown to help prevent three of the most common forms of cancer – breast, colon and prostate. Science tells us that omega 3s accomplish this in three ways. They stop the alteration from a normal healthy cell to a cancerous mass, inhibiting unwanted cellular growth and causing apoptosis, or cellular death, of cancer cells.

So you can see why knowing these benefits is the second most important thing you can do for your health. Can you guess what number one is?

That’s right! Now it’s time to put your knowledge to work. Eat more cold water oily fish and start taking good quality pure omega 3 fish oil supplements regularly.
